Nissan Mixim Electric Concept VehicleThe Nissan Mixim futuristic electric coupe concept was one of the wilder cars concepts shown at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The steering wheel resembles resembles a video game controller, there's an LCD command center, and the seating arrangement is a unique 1+2. The driver sits in the middle of the cockpit and the two passengers are on either side, sitting just a little more to the rear.

Nissan is planning on more hybrid cars and completely electric vehicles in a few years, but won't be focusing as much on ethanol and biodiesel. Many questions about the practicality of ethanol and biodiesel remain. Both biodiesel and ethanol cost more than regular gas, when changes in mileage and other factors are calculated. And do you sacrifice cropland for production of fuel?

Nissan currently sells some hybrid vehicles that rely on components and technology from Toyota and will come out with cars based on its own hybrid system in 2010.

Battery technology is still the stumbling block for practical electric vehicles. While concepts like the Mixim may get EV enthusiasts charged up, we're still a long way from seeing EV's humming down the highway.

Where will it come from?
