Dear Dub,
What do you think of this "cash for clunkers" idea? Are they going to force us to get rid of our old cars?

Well Eddie, nothing would surprise me once those birds in Washington start to get involved. On the surface it sounds like a positive idea. Get folks to drive cars that get better mileage by giving them an incentive to buy a new car.

But we're throwing the money around pretty good now, and that concerns me. Also, wasn't too much personal debt a problem? And now they want us to assume more debt by taking out a car loan... all in the name of trying to save private corporatations that should have known better and could have gone into bankruptcy protection to restructure without having to take out an eighth mortgage on the farm? Besides, there's something to be said for not having a car payment too! And a less than perfect vehicle that's banged up can still perform pretty well, sort of like hockey players at the end of a long season. Ooops... Detroit lost to Pittsburgh. Just another clunker from the Motor City I suppose!
