Alternate Route

Turn off the nav system, crumple up that MapQuest printout, and let's find out where the next random turn may take us!

Jun 20, 2009 - Ask Dub Schwartz!

Dear Dub,
It's no wonder the auto industry is in the shape it is because almost all the cars they build are junk! I had a Civic, then a PT Cruiser, and now a MINI and the transmission failed on all of them. In fact, the MINI is going to need a second tranny replacement before 40,000 miles. Even something as basic as tires don't last because of crappy suspension and alignments. My original tires have never lasted more than 12,000 miles before they needed to be replaced.

Woo hoo Gil. I just bet it's that sneaky component they put in every car you have that's discombobulating your transmissions. And that component is y-u-... I mean Y-O-U!!

I mean, you could run across a bad tranny. Stuff happens (It happens to me all the time) but four? Across different brands?

And I'm betting the obvious hard driving and a lack of tire rotation is why you eat tires like donuts too.

Mmm.... donuts!

So don't be surprised if one of these days you hear yourself saying DOH! when you figure it out. But be careful. If you learn something here it might push something else out of your brain. Remember that time you took the home beer making course and you forgot how to talk without yelling?
