Jun 21, 2009 - NOW It's Father's Day

I've run into at least a handful of people who were under the same impression that last Sunday was Father's Day this week, so I don't feel too bad jumping the gun. Besides, it gave me a whole week to say, "Hey it's Father's Week!" if anyone asked me why I was lounging around.

I have to go through the slide collection to find one of my favorite photos of my Dad, sitting on a sheet in the middle of a field, parts all around him, taking apart the engine of the car he borrowed for his honeymoon, but these two will do.

I'm pretty sure my sense of humor is 100% Dad as the first photo shows. That's Dad with the big ear, obviously hearing something very important from his brother, my uncle Buddy, who was a crackerjack auto body guy.

The second photo shows Dad at the begining of the slide for GM that got us to where we are today. That's his first import, having been driven to give them a shot by a '73 Chevy Vega, and he never owned another domestic vehicle the rest of his life. When you lose the core customer like that, it's awfully tough to get them back, as a lot of people are discovering. I doubt that GM ever returns to the "glory days". They're going to have to build their new customer base pretty much from scratch with the number of people, and their descendants, that they've driven away over the years.

It's been just over 21 years that Dad is gone, but he's still here!

Happy Father's Day to all you CarSpace fathers out there!
