Oct 21, 2008 - Safe To Wade Back In?

AR Index     451.51  +8.58  (+1.94%)

 Stocks of individual interest
Toyota  72.85  +3.33
GM        6.53    +0.02
Ford      2.33     -0.06

Dow 9265.43    -122.18 (-1.30%)

The ride is still moving around a lot and we probably still need to be prepared for some sudden moves now and then, but it feels like a lot of the market dust has settled.

GM is actively seeking a merger with Chrysler and that seems to have given investors hope and stopped the slide. Ford, on the other hand, continues to look like a stock on the pink sheets.

On the positive side, oil and gas prices continue to plummet, although in my neck of the woods the plummeting is less than precipitous. We're sitting at $2.95 for 87 octane, while 30 miles in any direction it's at least 15 to 20 cents lower.

Gas prices have dropped 3 times just this morning. I no longer even pretend to have ANY idea of how the price at the pump is set.
