Alternate Route

Turn off the nav system, crumple up that MapQuest printout, and let's find out where the next random turn may take us!

Sep 7, 2007 - Virginia is for Bug-ers

Sure it's cute, but does it work?As Michelle Krebs reported on AutoObserver Volkswagen of America announced yesterday that they are moving their corporate headquarters from Detroit to Herndon, VA in a move that will trim the ranks and likely provide an incentive (living in VA versus Detroit) for new talent to join VW.

I'm not sure that this will solve some of VW's percieved problems like reliability or lack of concern for the customer. And if the recent series of postings in the Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible discussion is any indication, VW has a fairly steep hill to climb.

People may think the Beetle is cute, but it's going to take a lot more than that for VW to become a big player in North America. Perhaps getting away from Detoit-think is a step in the right direction.

Un-pimp my auto?
I'm for function over form
It needs more than "cute"

Actually I believe mgossett is going to start up a blog on her CarSpace page. You'll all be able to join each other's friends lists which will make it easy to send email to everyone in the group through CarSpace. That hardest part is likely to be coming up with a catchy name for the blog:)

My sister had a 2000 New Beetle with flaky power windows. Her dealer was awful for the first few years of her ownership. She contacted corporate in '05 and the next time she went to her dealer (in Northern Virginia), they fixed her otherwise out of warranty windows and some other items. Something changed their attitude because their customer service was much improved in the last couple of years. My sister wanted to upgrade to a Passat wagon, but just couldn't bring herself to buy another VW just yet.

Hi, Just to be clear, is this where we are organizing regarding the VW window issues? Thanks!

Thanks for having patience with me as host in your Edmunds Forum. I will learn to stick by the rules. If I have any problems be contacting you. I am getting no satisfaction from VW but after directing them to Forum (if they will just go there) I believe I may have their attention. I will set up blog in car space so I can really start collecting names, and doing it quickly I hope. Actually, the mechanic who worked on her car (we can't afford a dealership, now that she's out of warranty) was who directed me to Edmunds. I can't thank him enough.
