Sep 29, 2008 - Who Are Those Guys?

As the late Paul Newman said as Butch Cassidy, "Who are those guys?"

I'm sure you don't recognize The Big Three, a Brian Epstein managed group that did not become the Beatles.

A lot of folks don't recognize the Big Three from Detroit these days either.

But on Saturday the Senate approved $25 billion in loans to Detroit, intended to spark innovation. To put that in a realm that more of us can get our heads around, that's the same as loaning them $10 million per day, every day, for almost seven years. If this is a loan, I hope we're getting a reasonable rate and strict payback schedule.

We're expecting innovation from a group that rode pickup trucks, SUVs, and other gas guzzlers into the ground?

Hopefully this bailout will bolster the Big Three enough to enable some innovation on their part that gets Americans buying their cars again and keeps automotive jobs in America. The whole financial outlook is smoggy to say the least.

I always wondered what if we stop growing? The economy. What happens to all that debt? Now I know, the goverment goes into more debt for us. And the cycle begins all over again.
