Alternate Route

Turn off the nav system, crumple up that MapQuest printout, and let's find out where the next random turn may take us!

Feb 4, 2008 - Ad-Nauseum

Super Bowl ads - winners?Well the big game is over and the activity of the day is analysis of the winners and losers of the Super Bowl commercials. Some of

We only had one "actual demonstration" ad with a Ford pickup being swung around on a centrifuge by its tow hooks. My 15 year old thought it was dumb and looked pretty fake for something that was actually supposed to have happened.

I liked the Audi R8 takeoff on the Godfather with the severed front end of a car in the bed to send a message.

Animals always go over big, so I liked the Bridgestone ads with the screaming critters as the car equipped with Bridgestone tires was able to safely swerve. The follow up ad with Alice Cooper and Richard Simmons in the road got a chuckle out of me as well.

My personal favorite was very remotely auto-related. The Bud Light ad where the cavemen are tired of dragging the beer to the party on a rock, when suddenly another caveman comes along having invented the wheel. Cut to the cavemen carrying the wheel with the rock and beer stacked on top, and a caveman saying "Wheel suck".

Which ads tickled your fancy?

Feb 1, 2008 - Hyping The Hype

Has advertsing come a long way... or gone too far?Super Bowl weekend is upon us and from time to time the stars of the broadcast turn out to be the memorable commercials.

Talking frogs and lizards, bizzare ads with chimpanzees, you name it, we'll see it.

And the car companies are no exception. Last year we had the GM assembly line robot who dreamed he dropped a bolt and was sent away from the factory and had to find other work.

Not sure what we'll see this year, but whatever it is, I'm certain we'll all have something to say about it here on the Alternate Route.

If you're feeling nostalgic you can check out past Super Bowl Car Commercials right here in CarSpace.

I'll be posting my thoughts on the Super Bowl car ads on Monday so be sure to bring back your thoughts on the ads... and enjoy the weekend and the game!
