Mar 13, 2008 - Past Research.

In 2000 I was a Senior in H.S. and in my third year working on engineering projects for fun.  What we did for a project was to build a battery powered car and race it against University students, we came in third that year under UCLA and some other big U that I dont remember... Not bad.  We designed it and the metal shop class fabricated it and the electronics class wired it up.

"The competition's goal is to complete as many laps as possible in one hour, racing around the track at speeds of 30 to 35 mph."

This was 8 years ago.  This boggles my mind why car makers "will not" release the technology for the economy and communitys to save money and have a more healthy enviroment.  Do you want to save money and live in a cleaner enviroment?  I do.  I am saying that they "will not" do this because I think that its either they are going to try and squeeze as much petrol based vehicles out as they can, or the oil companys are making it so they cant pop out these cars because they would loose billions.

As high school students we built a car that lasted over an hour (more than enough time for me to get to work and back) and still... There is nothing "affordable" that I can think of that is street legal in california.  This to me is rediculous.  We even built an electric powered scooter.  Manufactures need to get on the ball with this kind of thing in a hurry.  Gas prices right now are stupid, just plain stupid.
