According To Me

According to me is actually a play on words! Me is autoboy16 and accord being the car I drive! It'll be about day to day driving experiences sort of like a Long Term Car test!

Jan 7, 2008 - Menu Never Changes

Why do drive through lines take so long! No matter where you are, its long. The bank, your favorite fast food place, or even a pharmacy. I was obliviousto it until my mother pointed i;t out to me a few days back.

Imagine:

We in a silver Z4 pull up to a local Burger King behind a Navigator. We look at the preview menu long enough to figure out our meal. Mind you, there is no one else in front of the Navigator. We wait from 7:13pm to 7:20pm for just one person. Now my mom being a mother of 3 boys is quite patient... Until it comes to food. She yells aloud "OMFG will you friggen hurry it up! Its been 30years since I've been eating BK and I swear to you the menu has barely ever changed!"

As stereotyped bmw drivers are always in a hurry, she, like most of them, honks the horn! BMW makes great horns BTW. Compared to her miatas "Please Excuse Me, but can you please think about moving soon!"  type horn, this Z4 is the real deal! The Navigator suprisingly moves up to the next window, pays, pulls forward again picks up food and leaves before we finish orfering.

This type of situation is quite common in southern Florida. But that outcome was quite unexpcted! Shocked and expecting a finger or horn honk or even a rev of the Navigators thirstly 5.4l v8, my mom pulls up to the pay window and lets the top down because we were to low to hand the money over to the pay window! Total time spent Idling: 9 Minutes. Time we spent from ordering to leaving: 2.5minutes!

This situation reminds us of that VW passat wagon commercial! The one with the megaphones! I kinda of felt like the guy in the Navigator was the "BECAUSE I MAKE MORE MONEY THAN YOU" guy because the driver was deliberately slow taking no time at all at the register! But sadly, in miami, you grow to expect violence...

The only burger joint I go to now is Sonic, there was a BK there but it got shot down. Don't know why. Anyways, if you're not familiar with Sonic they have these cute carhops that bring your order out and ask if you want some ketchup or mustard, they are really working you for a tip but they deserve it. When I was in high school back in New Mejico we had Sonics all over and me and a buddy of mine who drove a 67 Mustang fast back would go there and pick up the car hops. Great times!

Yeah, I am more inclined to park and walk in for a to-go order. It is usually quicker than the drive-thru! What twists my britches when I do use the drive-thru are the dim bulbs in front of me that are ordering for the entire football team! There should be a restriction on order size at a drive-thru, just like the grocery store check out that is 12 items or less.

I agree with Steve, it's quicker parking and walking in. You also can make sure they got your order right !!! I also agree with you Cj that Booger King's menu hasn't changed much since I was a kid and I'm 29. We have a small burger franschise called Mr. Burger. I'm notsure if any of you got em' but their burgers are tasty even though it's like waiting for the cow to be killed, butchered, grinded into hamburger, and throwin' on the grill LONG of a wait !!!!-DaRock

I don't have much use for fast-food places (I don't eat meat), but thank goodness for the self-serve checkout lanes at the grocery store, and thank goodness for all the people who still use the cashier lanes. And thanks for the video (where was *I* when that one came out?)

I love that commercial!! Sometimes I think we as Americans are not so fortunate to have the resources to buy expensive, gas guzzling cars which we drive to fast food restaurants. Neither one are doing us much good. We would be better off walking more often and eating slow food.

I used to work at a Burger King back in high school, so I've got some experience to contribute. ;-) Drive thru cashiers are based on their speed. At my store, the standard was 2:30 per car, though my personal average was closer to 2:05. That's a pretty fast time when you consider you've got multiple cars in line. If we passed the 3 minute mark, we'd "bump" the customer forward and serve the next in line while we waited on the bumped car's food. 7 minutes is outrageous no matter where you are. If you want to hear some funny drive thru stories, hit me up.

Ah my pet peeve. Supermarket express lines are even worse. Suddenly the cashier tells the person in front of you: "That's $48.11. Credit or debit?" And the person looks so startled: "Oh, am I in line in a supermarket? Oh goodness, let me fumble for a credit car---no WAIT---there's my checkbook. I will now painstakingly fill out the check by hand, writing nice and sloooooowly so that it looks really really neat just like my elementary school teacher taught me 50 years ago."

I don't hit MickeyDee's too often but when I do, I just park and walk inside. Must faster than idling in the stupid car.
