Jan 6, 2008 - Winter Tire pressure

Miami never really gets cold, but it can. A few days ago, we had some record breaking lows of about 37degrees. 2days later, its currently 76degrees.

Just because school starts tomorrow doesn't mean I used the kicking tires approach(although a good idea...)

I keep my tire pressure in check!

As you can see, I have an older pump(well its actually my dads...) and I plan on purchasing a new one for myself! Any suggestions or reccomendations? When this one (often) dies, i use the one at the local Shell station and pay $.75 and fill all my tires and most of someone elses... I hate that piggy back feeling... Oh I like lightweight, small, and portable!

Oh, at first glance it looks like your alloy wheel is cracked. :)

There's some cool ones out there that have the air pump, voltmeter, and jump start cables plus a lantern, all in one. Don't know how much they cost but we have one in the house and keep it charged so it's good to go when needed. Filling up a tire does take longer than usual and the thing is noisier then heck. We take it with us on trips just in case we need it.

Sorry, I think 20p is closer to 40c - providing there are 100p in one pound sterling, what I'm not sure about :)

Keep meaning to buy one of those but for now I use the thing at my local BP station. Costs 20p, which I guess is about 10 cents US so makes the economics of buying one a bit dubious. At least some things are cheaper in U.K. - but with fuel at around $8.40 per US Gallon equiv the air should be free, not just cheap.

I bought a really really cheap (sub $5) one from Walmart a decade ago and it still works no problem. As ShiftRight said, it takes quite some time (realistically 2 psi per minute). It doesn't have the nifty air guage on it though. I'd rather use my separate guage, anyway.

I buy one from ebay for about 10 bucks. When it dies a couple of years later, I buy another :)

I purchased a small digital keychain tire pressure gauge from The Tire Rack (www.tirerack.com) a couple of months ago. It's great, but seems to only display readings in 0.5 psi increments.

My neighbor is a great guy. He has a big honking shop with a big honking generator, complete with a tire gauge on the tire inflator attachment that is actually accurate.

The problem with those little electric ones you plug into your cigarette lighter? Takes about TWO DAYS to fill a car tire. No wonder they have short happy little lives. The one in my Porsche 928 was REALLY good, but being German it probably cost more than the tires it was filling. I bet if Bosch made one of these it would be good.
