A shadowy flight...

...into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist. That was the deep, breathy intro of Knight Rider, as voiced by William Conrad (Cannon, Jake and the Fat Man). Last week, NBC aired the new Knight Rider movie.  This is the third major "re-issue" of a 70s-80s television show that featured a well-known vehicle as one of the stars.  We had Starsky & Hutch with the famous "Striped Tomato" Ford Gran Torino, and Dukes of Hazzard with its "General Lee" Dodge Charger.  But in those theatrical releases, it was current actors playing the old roles.  To their credit, the producers of the new Knight Rider movie chose to move the story into the present, acknowledging in the storyline that the previous incarnation was 25 years ago...
Once in a while, I get to combine two or more things I really love. Among the things I enjoy are cartoons, music, Legos, poker, photography, writing, history, movies, trivia, and cars. Every so often some of these things come close enough that I can enjoy two at a time...
On my way home the other night, I got held up on PCH by a movie shoot at Mugu Rock. You may not know it by name, but once you recognize what the rock looks like, you will realize that this is a standard stretch of road used in commercials, movies and TV shows when they need a scenic stretch of coastal highway. It always looks like a long, lonesome stretch of road, perfect for taking in the scenery at sunset or racing along its lazy curves, but what you don't see is what the car in the shoot comes upon the moment they cut away to the next shot: a line of cars waiting impatiently to get home after a long day at work...

Car Chases: Bullitt

After hearing about it for years, I finally got around to watching Bullitt last month. The pivotal scene, of course, is the car chase between McQueen's '68 Mustang GT and the Bad Guys' '68 Charger. In case you're wondering: it's all that it's cracked up to be...
