Went to the Audi performance driving event last Friday and I had an opportunity to drive the A4 3.2 Quattro on the infield track at California Speedway in Fontana as well as its competitors (328xi, IS250 AWD and C300 4Matic). Overall I have to say that I am not impressed by the new A4 at all.
The interior material quality is no longer class leading, both the Lexus and Bimmer have better quality materials...
With James too busy in Mexico being a layabout, the onus falls on me to pimp his story. See, a while ago JR headed off to Korea where, after a million-hour flight, dehydrated and confused by location and time shifts (he was some 5-hours in the future), Kia could assault his weary senses with the new Kia Soul. Read the full review over on inside line.
My opinion: It's ugly, and that's probably what Kia needs...
2008 Infiniti FX35: Your Hands Say One Thing, Your Eyes Another
Nov 1, 2008 1:01 pm | Categories: car reviewsPosted by jriz
The 2008 Infiniti FX35 is a truly bizarre vehicle to drive. If you were to just go by your hands and seat-of-your-pants feel, the FX feels an awful lot like the G35. Not surprising since it is based on the same platform and features basically the same engine...
I've now been at Edmunds for 20 months, and in that time my automotive knowledge and driving skill have dramatically grown. Yet, out of all automotive components, my opinion of audio systems has changed the most dramatically. Before, I sort of shrugged off optional "premium" sound systems as wastes of money people buy to brag about to their friends...
2009 VW CC: Another Favorite in the 28-43K Sweet Spot
Oct 27, 2008 8:13 am | Categories: car reviewsPosted by jriz
After a weekend and change in the 2009 Volkswagen CC, I've come to the realization that you really don't have to spend more than $43,000 on a car. Sure, there's the Aston Martins and Porsche 911s of this world, but I'm talking about the sedan or coupe you drive everyday.
Between the brackets of $28,000 and $43,000 there are some damn fine cars, models that are so good, why would you want or need anything else?..
2009 Acura TL: The Eiffel Tower of Cars?

OK, so it's ugly. Or rather, visually challenging. But they said that about the Eiffel Tower too, and look how that turned out...
2008 Saturn Astra: Translating Norwegian into Swedish
Oct 13, 2008 12:58 pm | Categories: car reviewsPosted by jriz
Driving a Saturn Astra is like speaking Swedish and visiting Norway. The languages are similar enough, but there's one or two things that'll leave you scratching your head. In the Astra's case, this Opel-based two-door hatch has a lot in common with Volkswagens (a language I speak fluently), but then there's some stuff that's just all jeg vet ikke...
2009 Chevy Cobalt XFE and a Portable Toilet
Oct 9, 2008 7:57 am | Categories: car reviewsPosted by jriz
You know, some times a picture says 1,000 words. But here's an extra 109.
This is the Chevy Cobalt XFE, a marketing exercise by GM that allows them to claim they have the most fuel-efficient compact car (best highway number, tied with Corolla for combined)...
My Very Own Jack-O-Lantern!

I've been driving a Jack-o-lantern since last Wednesday. I picked it up at this pumpkin patch in Moorpark, where it was the prized choice of the bunch, bigger than anything I've ever seen before. I hollowed out the center using a Caterpillar back hoe, then adorned it with stylish red eyes and a licence plate for a mouth...
I was driving the all-new 2009 Toyota Venza this weekend, but because of scheduling issues, Toyota had to pick up the car early on Sunday and trade it for a mystery car. Frankly, it's hard to get excited about a Toyota "mystery car" -- oooh, a Camry, a Corolla, a Highlander?!? Does the fun ever stop?..
