Stupid Is Forever

It's bad when bad things happen, but it's starting to bug me when people think that everything bad can be prevented or eliminated. We're never going to get rid of stupid.
Case in point, apparently they're having a problem in Texas with people driving the wrong way on the North Dallas Tollway...
Leave it to the NY Times to try and drum up a crisis where there really isn't one.
If you want to believe it, Ford could be in trouble because GM and Chrysler have declared bankruptcy.
The "logic" goes like this...
I've run into at least a handful of people who were under the same impression that last Sunday was Father's Day this week, so I don't feel too bad jumping the gun. Besides, it gave me a whole week to say, "Hey it's Father's Week!" if anyone asked me why I was lounging around.
I have to go through the slide collection to find one of my favorite photos of my Dad, sitting on a sheet in the middle of a field, parts all around him, taking apart the engine of the car he borrowed for his honeymoon, but these two will do...
Remember all the dire predictions about people not buying cars from a bankrupt company being a reason we had to throw money at GM? It didn't matter that people kept flying on bankrupt airlines, or any other example that could be shown, we had to throw that money away.
Well we wound up at bankruptcy for GM anyway...

Things that make you go duh!
Car dealers that are slated to be closed by GM and Chrysler are selling cars at deeper discounts than dealers that are going to survive the cut.
DUH
On the other hand, getting car sales moving again is the whole point of this exercise isn't it?..

City Safety from Volvo, it sounds like a wonderful implementation of technology.
If you approach a car in front of you going 2 mph to 9 mph, the car will put on the brakes and stop before hitting the vehicle. City Safety is only available in the XC60 models as of right now...
GM is expected to announce its third new restructuring plan today and it looks like the elimination of the Pontiac brand is going to be part of it.
The only real constant is change and it's become pretty obvious that GM has to change drastically to survive. That the change has to eliminate one of the storied brands in American automotive history is regretable...
I'm taking the Alternate Route on the road for the next couple of days as we head down to Richmond, VA for an AAU basketball tournament. That means a short excursion on the Capital Beltway around D.C. sometime around 6PM...
I was poking around conceptcarz.com this morning and ran across this 1949 Chevrolet GK Styleline Deluxe.
Production of the Chevrolet Styleline began in 1949. It was considered to be among the best-looking GM products produced...
Almost nothing but questions.
Will GM get their house in order on their own or will they finally be forced to restructure under bankruptcy protection?
With the government insisting on a leaner company, will all models that don't turn a profit be dropped?..
