NEW YORK (Reuters) - If General Motors Corp files for bankruptcy, as widely expected, its healthy assets will be quickly sold to a new company owned by the U.S. government, a source familiar with the situation said on Tuesday...

Toyota 76.47 -0.32
GM 1.18 -0.26
Ford 5.50 -0.58

Today's chart is the AR Index vs the Dow for 2009. While the auto stocks are certainly more volatile than the Dow, the index is still generally moving in the direction of the Dow, and that volatility itself would seem to show that people haven't run away from the auto stocks and are still trying to make a play with them.
Remember, even when people are dumping a stock and seeming to run away from it, there are buyers on the other side who think just as strongly that they're getting a bargain by purchasing the stock before it goes up.
The economy may be in recovery mode, and the automotive industry may be waiting for a jump start, but according to the Chicago Tribune, auctions of classic cars are drawing record crowds across the nation.
"We simply refuse to participate in the recession," said Dana Mecum, chief executive officer of Mecum Auto Auction.
Entering the weekend, 63 percent of the vehicles were sold, according to Tom Christmann, Mecum's marketing manager...
We're on the road this weekend at a graduation party for my nephew (Congratulations Ryan!) and we had someone with us who had never seen Roadside America in Shartlesville, PA (Exit 23 on I-78)
It's a real slice of Americana and a welcome stop if you find yourself in need of a break heading across eastern PA.
An 8000 sq ft train layout. And some people say that I have too much time on my hands!
Dear Dub,
What do you think of the new Nissan Cube with that asymmetrical back end? I want a new car, one that does what it should. One that won't make me feel too bad, one that won't make me feel too good...

Eagerly awaited - the new 2009 Nissan Cube arrived at both of our Cincinnati Nissan dealers yesterday and the anticipation was worth the wait. If you appreciate bold design and innovation, then you will agree with our review and rating of the new Cube as an "A". With so many plain designs on the market today, it is refreshing to see Nissan design a new car that allows Cincinnati drivers to drive a 2009 Cube that is uniquely their own...
Bill Elliot wrecked while trying to break his own 22 year old speed record at Talledega when a tire blew at on his second run.
His record is 212 mph, but this car has been up to 252 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats last year.
It sounds rather quick!
There are rumblings that GM might move its headquarters out of Detroit.
When Fritz Henderson was asked about the possibility, his answers were less than confidence-building.
“We’re looking at, frankly, everything within our business, but it’s not like we have that queued up at the top of our list,” he said...
The pace car for the Indy 500 this year is the new Camaro. It's a sign of the times that the comments I'm seeing about the car are not exactly flattering.
...It looks like a paint can fell off the back of a Home Depot truck!!..
I bet you thought I forgot it was Tuesday and my AR Index reporting day, didn't you?
OK... so you were right, so what!..
