I'm still not convinced that the Chevy Volt is the answer to any question that's being asked these days, but the folks at Inside Line got to test the engineering development car, also known as the "mule"
How a vehicle that's not expected to turn any kind of profit is supposed to help GM is one that has a lot of folks besides me scratching their heads.
But you can read about the 2001 Chevy Volt Prototype First Drive over on Inside Line.
Facing a June 1 restructuring deadline to avoid bankruptcy, GM will begin notifying outlets the automaker plans to eliminate by May 11, the company told dealers in a video conference call.
They're looking at up to 1200 underperforming outlets and more than 450 stores will be cut with the ending of the Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer and Saab brands.
Some serious fat trimming going on...

Another good week for the index, but I thought the focus should be on Ford this week and the stock performance over the last year.
Since they announced they wouldn't be taking any bailout money the stock has been like an explorer in the mountains on an expedition seeking higher ground.
When car sales start to rebound, Ford will find themselves in a fair lane headed for quite a fiesta!
GM is expected to announce its third new restructuring plan today and it looks like the elimination of the Pontiac brand is going to be part of it.
The only real constant is change and it's become pretty obvious that GM has to change drastically to survive. That the change has to eliminate one of the storied brands in American automotive history is regretable...
Just surfing around sightseeing this morning and this beauty from 1954 caught my eye.
Pontiac's Motorama star for 1954 was its first sports dream car, the Bonneville Special. Using a name that would make the production cars in 1957 and never let go, the 100-inch wheelbase and fiberglass Bonneville has a transparent plexiglass roof with opening panels over the seat to aid access...
Dear Dub,
Do you believe in jinxes? I hadn't had a flat tire in almost 20 years. Then I made the mistake of saying that out loud and the next day I ran over a utility knife blade that caused an unrepairable flat on a tire that only had about 5,000 miles on it...
Car Show Season is Here Again!

My year has two seasons: car show season and the rest of the year. Car show season begins the Wednesday before Easter for the New York Auto Show and the end of the season is when I leave the Fall Hershey event in October. After that, it’s a dreary winter of anticipating another car show...
While doing some information gathering for financial planning for my Mom, I came across a curious letter. She was a GM shareholder and got a letter from Rick Wagoner last July that I thought I would share with the class.

Dear Stockholder,
I am writing to you to tell you about significant actions announced today in response to the worsening economic and automotive market conditions we are experiencing in the U.S...
With the deadline for Chrysler to get a deal done with Fiat just around the corner, things aren't exactly looking favorable for getting that deal done.
Fiat has enough wayward offspring to support without Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne trying to persuade investors Thursday that he can add Chrysler LLC to the brood by an April 30 deadline set by the U.S. government...
The Virginia Department of Transportation is trying a new strategy to slow us down on the roads, zig zag lines on the roads.
I've seen the dots on the highway to help maintain proper spacing between vehicles and control speed and they seem to work in the places I've seen them, so why not squiggles?
I bet it would definitely work if you made the center line zig zag!..
