2009 VW Passat CC: When is a Coupe not a Coupe?

When is a coupe not a coupe? When it has four doors! Or especially when it looks like this!..
2010 Honda Insight: Preparing for Roads Clogged With These

The first true Prius fighter is just around the corner. This is the 2010 Honda Insight (or rather, a lightly veiled concept version of it), an obvious Hondasized take on what people think a hybrid vehicle should look like. I think it looks pretty sharp, certainly much better than the Prius from the front...

Really Nissan? Really?
According to the folks who sit behind me, Nissan is going ahead with a 2011 Murano Convertible...
China Has Better American Cars Than We Do
Aug 11, 2008 8:29 am | Categories: car news commentaryPosted by jriz
I'm sure you've seen the Russian crash test of a Chery Amulet, where the Chinese sedan crumbles apart as if constructed entirely out of fortune cookie. Ditto Chery's little QQ. That leads most to believe that Chinese cars are horrific in engineering quality and I won't argue. However, after watching Ted Koppel's documentary on the growing Chinese automotive industry, I noticed something: China has better Fords than we do.
Judging by pictures on their Web site (my Chinese is a little rusty), they sell the Ford S-Max, the Ford Mondeo, and the European Focus sedan and hatchback...
While perusing my monthly copy of Britian's CAR magazine, I happily came upon this month's brief return of their Good, Bad, Ugly section. For every vehicle sold in the U.K., they include a five-star rating, a very brief description and which version (if any) they would buy. It's wonderfully blunt and a fun read, but several of their picks were surprising...
They've Still Got Some Ugly In 'Em

I saw this thing for the first time yesterday ... yuck. Of course, making the five-door Chevy Aveo attractive without a complete overhaul basically would've been impossible...
Top Gear America Early Reviews

The early reviews are in from Top Gear America. A handful of folks from around here went to the studio taping Saturday and there are mixed reviews. Some hearsay thoughts...
Pop the Champagne! Hummer in a Nose Dive
Jun 20, 2008 8:31 am | Categories: car news commentaryPosted by jriz
As Inside Line reported yesterday, at least one Hummer dealer sees the writing splatered in mud on the wall and is downsizing its sales operational significantly. For myriad reasons, GM is quite clearly moving in a greener, fuel efficient direction, which leaves Hummer looking like Disco Stu at Ghostbar. Presently, there's at least $5,000 on the hood of an H3, while Edmunds TMV for an H2 is nearly $8,000 under sticker...
2009 Porsche 911: Making a Perfect Car Perfecter
Jun 13, 2008 8:02 am | Categories: car news commentaryPosted by jriz
If you've never had the opportunity to drive a Porsche 911, find a way to make it happen. Throw on your best polo, pop the collar, gel the crap out of your hair then head down to the local Porsche store. That should do the trick...
2009 Acura TSX: Mustaches Belong on Tom Selleck
Jun 11, 2008 8:19 am | Categories: car reviews, car news commentaryPosted by jriz
My distaste for the 2009 Acura TSX has been documented, as has the general distaste by everyone within these Edmunds walls. While the horrible electro-steering was enough to incur wrath, its goofy milk-mustache grille and overdone body bulges felt like a slap in the face to the old car. I'm not sure who at Acura thought that farming out their front end styling to Saturn was a good idea, but IT WASN'T...
