The agreement between the UAW and Chrysler was ratified by a narrow margin on Saturday morning.
UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said in a statement. "Now we're going to come together as a union -- and now it's on the company to move ahead, increase their market share and continue to build great cars and trucks here in the U.S."
Chrysler Vice Chairman and President Tom LaSorda said, "We are pleased that our UAW employees recognize that the new agreement meets the needs of the company and its employees by providing a framework to improve our long-term manufacturing competitiveness."
Is everybody happy?
The company definitely got a bottomline boost as the agreement shifts the healthcare burden to the union administered trust, and the two-tier wage system reduces their labor cost and should help Chrysler be more competitive...
