Electric cars may eventually be the future, but from where I sit, that future is certainly not now.
Battery limitations seem to be the biggest hurdle, although pricing is starting to look like an issue as well. The Volt is supposed to be about $40K, which is pretty pricey...
Sort of an interesting "birthday" today as this marks the 84th anniversary of the beginning of construction of the Nurburgring circuit.
The photo of one of my favorite drivers of all time, Jim Clark, airborne at Nurburgring.
Clark won two F-1 championships, and the 1965 Indy 500 in a rear-engined Lotus, the first time a rear-engined car won at Indy, and no front-engined car has won Indy since then.

Being in the car business for 26 years I have been on a lot of test-drives, mostly uneventful. Once in a while a driver can get away from you.
The new Camaro Z-28 was an impressive car...
Dear Dub,
I had a disturbing experience the other day. I took a flat lawn tractor tire in to my local shop to have them fix it. They had fixed it once before about 10 years ago but it went flat again...

“You missed the heyday of the car salesman kid”. That’s what I was told by a well-worn veteran, who was still wearing a white belt that matched his shoes. When I started selling, we still had a couple of salespeople that been selling in the 1970’s...
You're looking at Honda's U3-X, their new 'personal mobility' device that, according to the Daily Mail, "could one day be zipping up and down our streets."
If you're too lazy to walk, just sit in front of the TV like a normal person! And if you're too weak to get around (Honda said the machine is meant for the elderly) how the heck are you going to operate the thing.
First the Segway, now this...

WASHINGTON — An auto industry trade group says it supports a ban on texting and using hand-held cell phones while driving in advance of next week's major government summit on distracted driving.
The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers said Wednesday that using a hand-held device to text or make phone calls while driving represents a safety risk and it supports the ban.
The group represents 11 automakers, including General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp...
Silent Running

From the Washington Post:
After years of trying to make cars sound as if they were riding on air, engineers are considering how they might bring back some noise. They're trying to make some of them -- those silent hybrids -- more audible.
But how?..

Reflecting from my office across the dealership at Sierra Motors in Jamestown I ofton wonder what little things in my life took place to lead me to become a GM.
I’m sure with a smile in my heart this is one of them.
We all have experienced disappointment at some point(s) in our lives...

Another slight drop at the pump this week, although oil and gas prices pretty much seem to have disconnected from reality... which reminds me, Dub Schwartz informs me he's got a doozie of a reality disconnect story to relate to us on Saturday.
