The auto stocks continue to take a beating from the uncertainty over the bailout situation. At this point it seems like even a decision to not bail them out would improve at climate as we'd at least know something for certain.

The talk is nothing but bailout as the automakers try to make their case why the government should give $25 billion in additional loans guarantees, either all on its own or as a part of the $700 billion financial institution bailout.
The stock market doesn't like uncertainty and there's plenty of that to go around where the automakers are concerned. Until we hear more specifics from the automakers about the changes they have to make, even with the loan guarantees, the outlook for share prices will remain bleak...

The ride is still moving around a lot and we probably still need to be prepared for some sudden moves now and then, but it feels like a lot of the market dust has settled.
GM is actively seeking a merger with Chrysler and that seems to have given investors hope and stopped the slide. Ford, on the other hand, continues to look like a stock on the pink sheets...
The last week or so in the market has sort of been like being a little kid in the back seat of the car on what you think is a long and now boring trip.
Merger talks between Ford, GM, and Chrylser seemed to stop the bleeding in shares of Detroit. I suppose the good news is that if you're a believer in Detroit, now would be a great time to get into the stocks...

It feels like we need to pass out chewing gum to keep our ears from popping as the market whips up and down.
Keeping a positive outlook can be tough, but oil and gas prices continue to fall, although all the stations in my area have now gone over to ethanol-laced gas and I'm taking a 7-10% hit in mileage as a result.
Best advice: Keep your hands and arms inside the car until the ride has stopped moving!
