The 2008 Infiniti FX35 is a truly bizarre vehicle to drive. If you were to just go by your hands and seat-of-your-pants feel, the FX feels an awful lot like the G35. Not surprising since it is based on the same platform and features basically the same engine...
This coming week, I'm going to be jetting off to Seoul, Korea, to drive the new Kia Soul. I'll also be visiting the Soul's factory in Gyeongju as well as Kia's R&D facility to see some of the company's alternative fuel and electric/hybrid prototypes. I've never been to Korea, let alone Asia, so this should be an interesting -- albeit very busy and exhausting -- experience...

Sometimes the timing of letters is perfect, like a horror story right around Halloween. And the moral of this story is... the job of basic automotive eductation is never done!..

Cerberus Capital Management has shown their true colors in the last few months.  It's no surprise that these are money people and not industry people.  Their reason to exist is to move money around... I understand that. So now that the economy has gone in the big green trash bin, Cerberus has its eye on a prize - trade Chrysler for GMAC so they can get their hands on some of that $700 billion being made available to banks.  GMAC, for those unaware, has a mortgage business in addition to the car loan business.  They have stated this week they are going to apply for bank holding company status in order to apply for those federal funds...

GM is postponing some of its spending on product development as it tries to conserve precious cash during a severe U.S. auto sales downturn and a global economic slump. That's not surprising in these belt-tightening times...
Quick, who makes this car? I just can't tell. With only two emblems it's a complete and total mystery as to which manufacturer produces this car...

Here's the problem with "bailouts".  As soon as you start handing out money, people are going to start to line up to get it. GMAC, the financing arm of General Motors Corp., is taking steps to become a bank holding company, potentially giving it greater access to the government's $700-billion financial bailout package, according to sources familiar with the matter. Maybe the Alternate Route can be converted into a bank holding company and get in line for some cash too...

You keep hearing things like "GM is too big to fail". Why? Bankruptcy is something that happens to companies that need to resize and readjust to changing market realities. The North American automobile market has certainly changed and GM really hasn't done that great a job of adapting to the shifting landscape and that's why they find themselves in the spot they're in...
