Snows? Oui Whee

The snow tire police are coming in Quebec. A new law on the books requires all taxis and passenger vehicles to have snow tires on all wheels in Quebec between December 15 and March 15. This is causing a bit of a potential problem as tire manufacturers scramble to meet the forced increase in demand...
Our esteemed Service Manager, Malcom Simons is in the photo below with his pants down to his ankles.  Why would he be photographed like this knowing that we would put him on the blog?    Good question.  I don't think he thought that far ahead. Malcolm raced all season at Redline Raceway this summer, and made it to the bracket finals at Pine Valley Raceway, where this illustrious photo was captured.  He made it through the eliminations at Pine Valley to the semifinals. Malcolm not only raced the Jupiter Chevy Camaro, but he had a foot race as well.  At Pine Valley, along with Drag Racing, they also paticipated in "Olympic Activities."  One of which is a foot race with your pants down to your ankles...

You know, some times a picture says 1,000 words. But here's an extra 109. This is the Chevy Cobalt XFE, a marketing exercise by GM that allows them to claim they have the most fuel-efficient compact car (best highway number, tied with Corolla for combined)...

As the number of hybrids and alternative fuel vehicles on the road continues to grow, their numbers showing up in repair shops increases as well. This poses new challenges for small car repair shops struggling to keep up with a changing industry and institutional bias that dealers are the only ones who know how to do the job right, especially if the product is new. Independent repair shops like my buddies at Tire Town are constantly adding new equipment and training to keep pace with the changing automotive technology...

Key To The Future?

Ford Motor Company is introducing an innovative new technology – called MyKey – designed to help parents encourage their teen-agers to drive safer and more fuel efficiently, and increase safety-belt usage. Ford’s MyKey feature – which debuts next year as standard equipment on the 2010 Ford Focus and will quickly become standard on many other Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models – allows owners to program a key that can limit the vehicle’s top speed and audio volume.  MyKey also encourages safety-belt usage, provides earlier low-fuel warnings and can be programmed to sound chimes at 45, 55 and 65 miles per hour.    Naturally any teenagers surveyed about it aren't going to like this idea. In teaching my kids to drive, I've never had a problem with them speeding or being distracted while driving...

Countdown to Bond: BMW 750iL from Tomorrow Never Dies

As if to make up for the fact "GoldenEye's" BMW Z3 didn't show off any of its supposed gadgets, the Bondmakers threw just about everything but the kitchen sink into the next Bond car and to do it, they'd need something big. Enter the BMW 750iL from "Tomorrow Never Dies." Off the top of my head, this thing had 12 rockets in the sunroof, trapezoidal spikes in the bumper, reinflating tires, cutting saw in the hood roundel, electrified body and tear gas for security, sledge-hammer-proof glass, voice responses, and a remote control built into Bond's cell phone. The latter allows Bond to pilot the 750 from the back seat and from outside the car itself...

Keeping a positive outlook can be tough, but oil and gas prices continue to fall, although all the stations in my area have now gone over to ethanol-laced gas and I'm taking a 7-10% hit in mileage as a result. Best advice: Keep your hands and arms inside the car until the ride has stopped moving!
Hello fellow drivers, So many of my customers have suggested that I do this so here we go. You are reading my first blog. In these hard times everybody is is looking for  a gas saver and more are looking for green vehicles...
I'm going to be blunt here: If you own a Lamborghini, there's a good chance you're a bit of douche. It's a car that just screams "Look at me! Look at me!..
The late arrival to the party could very well be wondering why they bothered. Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sales USA was quoted in Automotive News last week from the Paris Auto Show regarding the company's outlook on the Tundra.  Lentz noted that Toyota does not want to get caught in the Ford F-Series vs Chevy Silverado war for first place in sales, or market against the all-new Dodge Ram 1500 or Ford F150.  He acknowledged that many of the former buyers of pickups - commuters and those who wanted the "image" - have left the market for more fuel efficient vehicles (aka, cars) and likely won't return. Toyota expected to sell 20,000 units per month after a fairly successful launch year, but their September 2008 sales were a dismal 7696, down over 60 percent from the September 2007 tally...
