Who Are Those Guys?

As the late Paul Newman said as Butch Cassidy, "Who are those guys?" I'm sure you don't recognize The Big Three, a Brian Epstein managed group that did not become the Beatles. A lot of folks don't recognize the Big Three from Detroit these days either. But on Saturday the Senate approved $25 billion in loans to Detroit, intended to spark innovation...

It annoys the heck out of my kids, but I have terminal shutterbug disease and carry my digital SLR pretty much everywhere I go, just in case. So when I was visiting my buddies at Tire Town and one of them asked if I had my camera because he just heard on the scanner that there was a problem at the shopping center next door I was ready. I even beat the fire department to the scene and got about 100 shots as they extinguished what used to be a Dodge Stratus...

Dear Dub, In all the hub bub in the stock market recently and bailout deals and all that, the bailout of the automakers seems kind of lost in the shuffle. With all the money that the government is getting ready to throw around, do you think we should bailout Detroit? One of the Undecided Dark days in Detroit Their sales are way down Smug smiles of the past Have turned to a frown They didn't adapt to the changing game They forged right ahead making more of the same Gas may be rising But no problems they see So General Motors Brings us the Hummer H3 The dinosaurs thought They were too big to fail But they were wrong too Now we're hearing the wail We need to survive Just lend us some money If it wasn't so sad This all would be funny I know it sounds cruel and heartless and mean But sometimes bad companies do leave the scene You dug your own hole Don't sit there and cry Say, here's an idea Try building something we'll buy!
You know, the Audi R8 usually doesn't look like a small car. Other than its height, the R8 generally looks sizeable and even a little imposing. And then you park it next to the Dodge Challenger, which is abso-freakin-lutely enormous...

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday signed into law a measure banning motorists from text-messaging and e-mailing while operating a vehicle. It's sad that we've reached a point where people have to be told that they need to drive their car when they're supposed to be driving their car...

2011 Chevy Volt : Another Strike Against It?

As reported by Inside Line yesterday, the Chevy Volt's small gasoline engine will not replenish the batteries as originally described. Instead, after the 40-mile battery range is tapped out, the gas engine will essentially replace the battery as the electric motor's power source. This is different from what GM originally said, but technically consistent with their statement that said "a gasoline/E85-powered engine generator seamlessly provides electricity to power the Volt's electric drive unit while simultaneously sustaining the charge of the battery." Sustaining therefore means that no additional power is drained from the already drained batteries...
Here's the link: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=132112 I knew something was fishy about this car all along because it just sounds too good to be true... I think GM has hyped up the Volt just a little bit too much and it is going to come back and bite them once the complete story is surfaced. Toyota probably knew about this the whole time and that's why they aren't even worried...

One hundred years ago today the first factory-built Ford Model T rolled off the assembly line. The Tin Lizzie cost $850, seated two, and came in any color you wanted as long as it was black. Can you imagine what the buzz was like on those early 20th century message boards with topics like: Can the Model T succeed?..
