I'm beginning to think all this "self esteem" nonsense and telling kids that no matter what they do it's fantastic is coming home to roost. It's one thing to tell a two year old who scribbles all over the T-Rex picture that you love their picture. It's another thing once that kid should know better, like in high school...
There are days when I think that the test for getting your license needs to be tightened up a bit or maybe occassional retesting. Yesterday was one of them.

On this greenest of green days, I ran across an editorial by Patrick Deneen in the Dallas Morning News that I have to share with you.
Everyone seems to be going green now. It's as if we're celebrating St. Patrick's Day all year round...
Taking a good, honest look at yourself and all your strengths and faults is a hard thing to do. Sometimes it takes 'outside eyes' to help you get a better picture.
So it's not surprising that the view of North American auto shows from outside our borders might be a bit different from what domestic enthusiasts think...

The good old check engine light because the gas cap isn't on tight. Now Ford wants to make gas caps a thing of the past.
Pretty much every time I go to the gas station to fill up it's a good bet that I will see someone driving off with their gas gap dangling on the side of their vehicle...
Sometime between 2:30 and 3am this morning I was awoken by the sound of heavy traffic leaving my neighborhood.
For a brief moment I wondered if I had missed an emergency broadcast system announcement to head for the hills, but then I remembered... Black Friday...
Without them, where would we be?
Take a little time today to think about how wonderful it is that we can be here to discuss, even argue, the smallest, insignificant minutiae about cars.
Think about how, without the freedoms that have been, and continue to be won, our world would be a far different place than it is now...
