Feb 28, 2008 - Game play! The Car Stock Exchange is now open!

Forget fantasy football.  If you're into cars then the place to be is The Car Stock Exchange.  It's an online game by the Edmunds' Inside Line crew where you can buy and sell stock in upcoming vehicles, which is valued based on predicting the sales of particular models in the U.S. The money used in CSX exists only in the virtual world and new members receive $1,000,000 in funny money for joining.

Watch the Stock Index and check the upcoming IPO Calendar.

If you think you know which cars will be hot or not, are competitive and like winning prizes - I suggest you put your gameface on and start playing.

Feb 24, 2008 - Honda Pilot Driver's Seat Catches Fire

Talk about being in the hot seat!

A member reports having his 2004 Honda Pilot car seat go up in flames after warming the car for a few minutes on a cold Chicago morning. The car was filled with smoke and a flame was visible. The driver managed to extinguish the fire and now has a two inch hole in the driver's seat along with a horrible smell.

At least two other members report similar incidents and a number report that while their seats haven't burned their heated seats become unbearably hot. The original poster had the good fortune of having his dealer fix the problem and repair or replace the seat even though the Pilot was long out of warranty. Others report uncooperative dealers though eventually they did come around and fix the problems for them. The incidents have been reported to NHTSA.

Feb 11, 2008 - Are oil changes every 3,000 miles really needed?

A new state campaign in California is urging motorists to ignore the old instructions of changing your oil every 3,000 miles.

The California Integrated Waste Management Board, assigned to reduce waste and keep used oil out of landfills, water bodies and groundwater, launched the campaign after research found that 73 percent of Californians change their oil more frequently than recommended by the manufacturers of their vehicles - most of them at 3,000 miles.

The campaign, using www.3000milemyth.org as a primary listening post states that most vehicles can go 5,000, 7,000 or even 10,000 miles without an oil change depending on driving habits and conditions.

If you live in California, expect radio ads to bombard you on the topic.

What's at stake?  Ground water and landfills not to mention the cost of extra oil changes.  Yet another way to be a little green while keeping you in the black.

Feb 4, 2008 - Super Bowl Recap of the Game, er, Car Commercials

Well, surprise, surprise!  The game was not a snoozer at all.  CarSpace fans who were instant messaging during the game were surprised that the Giants held the Pats to 4 points for most of it and in the final minutes took what Patriot fans had declared theirs going into the game.

But what about the commercials?!?!?!

In canvasing the community and neighborhood parties, the Planter's Cashew commercial was indeed among the funniest.  For car and car-related ads the 2008 Toyota Corolla was particularly funny in addition to the Bridgestone tires ad with screaming animals (sorry Richard Simmons - not so funny).

Most compelling car commercials to get a consumer into the showroom to "check it out" is a tie between the 2008 Hyundai Genesis and the 2008 Audi R8 - depending on your needs of course.

Feb 3, 2008 - It's Super Bowl Sunday - Let the Car Commercials Roll!

It's an American tradition.  'Nuff said.  For American gridiron it is the pinnacle of the sport.  You make it through the season, hopefully don't lose too many players due to injury and then wiggle through the playoff's until... yes, you are in the Super Bowl.

For fans, whether you are an NFL junkie or not, the Super Bowl is the Sunday to yell, scream, find a team to cheer and yes, wait with baited breath for... the commercials.

Forget TIVo and the DVR skipping past the commercials...no, you're going to watch them.  Why?  Because some commercials will only air during the Super Bowl or for a short time after - like the GM commercial (below) that was pulled last year due to complaints from a suicide prevention organization.  At least that was once the case.  Now, with video upload and our friends at the car companies we are able to bring you the videos here in CarSpace to view at your leisure.

To prepare you for what's to come, take a peek at year's past of the Super Bowl Car Commercial extravaganza we've put together for you.

Jan 30, 2008 - New and Cool Advertisements on the Road

Only the Europeans could be this cool. How would you like to see one of these trucks going by? The trailers are decorated to look like the sides are missing and the products they are hauling are painted on the sides and back, or coming out!

Jan 23, 2008 - BMW Run-Flat Tires costing BMW business?

Consumer starting to play hardball with BMW on run-flat tire issues.

A few members in the Forums have either cancelled, or are threatening to cancel, their new BMW orders, based on information garnered from this topic. The level of dissatisfaction with the run flat tires installed on BMWs, and the rather tepid response of some BMW dealerships to remedy the problem, or adequately service the tires, is causing a consumer backlash that seems to get stronger and stronger here at Edmunds and throughout Internet forums. This seems to be an issue that BMW needs to address much more forcefully before it spins out of control.

As one poster put it: “I do want to let you know this site is having an effect on BMW sales. They have lost another customer.”

Aug 21, 2007 - 2008 Honda Accord - The Long Wait is Over

For some it was better than New Year's Eve, "Happy New Year" proclaimed thegraduate, an active member in the Forums announcing that Honda and the various sites including Inside Line had released their coverage of the new 2008 Honda Accord coupe and sedan.

So what's the reaction from consumers so far?

Aviboy97 - "Size Matters...this car is big. Only 2.5in shorter then a Chrysler 300?? 5 inches LONGER then the Camry!??! Does Honda have plan to introduce a true midsized vehicle in between the new large sedan Accord and compact sedan Civic? Perhaps the Euro Accord/ Acura TSX sized Honda "Something"...

Does the size of the new Accord mean they are expecting the buyer to be similar to the Maxima/ Avalon buyer? I also noticed the average age Accord buyer to be 50. Will that increase to over 60, as C&D thinks?? "

It's a great read - the dialogue and disecting of the new Honda between the real driver's of the world.  There are two active discussions taking place right now - Comments on Inside Line's first drive of the 2008 Honda Accord coupe and sedan and the official 2008 Honda Accord Coupe & Sedan discussion in our Future Vehicles Forum.  Be sure and chime in.
