CarSpace Chevrolet NewsAll the Chevrolet vehicle news you want! All about Chevy SUVs, trucks, and sports cars. Aug 12, 2008 - Even More Cuts at General Motors
As the weakened economy continues to make things harder for automakers, General Motors has announced that it will reduce its salary-staff, eliminate health coverage of retirees over the age of 65, and reduce the number of pay raises.
In addition, GM has announced further plans to cut the number of trucks and SUVs. The automaker has already made significant production cuts to their line of once-popular trucks and SUVs such as the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Yukon. Production is expected to be reduced by 300,000 units by the end of the year, a significant margin.
Aside from significant cuts to production and the number of employees, GM has also announced that it plans to tighten up marketing and engineering budgets as well. As a result, the next generation of large trucks and SUVs are expected to be delayed to the dismay of Chevrolet San Diego dealers. Selling assets is also now under consideration, and may result in the sale of plants, real estate, etc.
General Motors has a long road ahead of them. The Hummer brand is likely to be sold soon, other brands may be sold or simply dissolved, and sales continue to slide. Meanwhile, GM is hard at work on the upcoming plug-in electric Chevrolet Volt, but it’s unfortunately still a ways away. Another important vehicle says Rio Rancho Chevrolet dealers, is a new Chevrolet compact that is also currently in the works. Time will tell if these vehicles will come in time to drive new customers into dealerships. Ford has also made cuts and delays in regards to their F-Series pickup, which has maintained slower sales in recent months at Richmond Used Cars and other Ford dealers within large news and used pickup inventories.
