CarSpace Thoughts from the CurbCar Reviews, News and Random Thoughts from Edmunds.com Automotive Editor James Riswick Oct 27, 2008 - 2009 VW CC: Another Favorite in the 28-43K Sweet SpotAfter a weekend and change in the 2009 Volkswagen CC, I've come to the realization that you really don't have to spend more than $43,000 on a car. Sure, there's the Aston Martins and Porsche 911s of this world, but I'm talking about the sedan or coupe you drive everyday. Between the brackets of $28,000 and $43,000 there are some damn fine cars, models that are so good, why would you want or need anything else? You could get (in no particular order) a BMW 1 or 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4, Infiniti G37, Nissan Maxima, Cadillac CTS, Hyundai Genesis, Acura TL, Pontiac G8 GT or one of these Volkswagen CCs. Each of these are as good or better than bigger, more expensive models (often times within their own brand). It's no surprise, then, that many of these inhabit my favorite car list -- the CC included. This is a truly lovely automobile to both drive and look at. Sure the electric steering is a little numb and the four-person capacity is pointless, but the CC is pleasant to drive around town, competant enough in the mountains, and in typical German fashion, takes to the freeway like an all-star. Plus, it's interior is beautiful and its styling is easily the nicest Volkswagen has ever created (apologies to the Karmann Ghia Owners of America). Having said that, I think the 2.0T version is the better buy since it's cheaper and gives up little in terms of performance and nothing in terms of luxury. -James Riswick
