Oct 21, 2008 - Behind the Scenes: A Romantic Evening with Kurt

Don't you hate it when a big rig parks in between you, the car and the sun just as you're about to wrap up a photo shoot? Just as the sun is about to set behind the downtown skyscrapers? Yeah, I do too.

Luckily, the dude pulled away before photog Kurt Niebuhr and I needed to scramble to find a new "beauty" location for the 2009 Acura TL. This would be just one of the many romantic locations we shoot in every week (and by "we" I mean me 2 percent of the time and photographers Niebuhr and Scott Jacobs 100 percent). At least we weren't propositioned by hookers, accosted by the homeless or frightened by frightening people -- all of which have happened before in the lovely wearhouse district of east downtown L.A. I've had Jacobs tell me, "You know, it's probably best that you just duck down and stay in the car." That's taking one for the team.

Of course, no downtown shoot would be incomplete without a soupcon of the usual garbagey sewage aroma. There was also a truck.
