Jan 7, 2009 - Behind the Scenes: Playing in the Snow

Although temperatures are rising and snow is consequently melting, there was thankfully enough of the white stuff to make a trip up to the mountains worth our while yesterday for a pair of photo shoots. Photographers Scott Jacobs and Kurt Niebuhr, plus Mike Magrath and I ventured up the Big Pines Highways past Wrightwood to shoot our new long-term Suzuki SX4 and a Nissan Frontier for a future Edmunds Test Drive.

While we didn't the get the sort of snow-throwing frollicking we were hoping for, we did manage to find a clearing sufficient to drive the Frontier through and make things interesting. I also managed to get the Frontier stuck, but more on that when the Test Drive goes live. The photo above is Magrath chucking snow onto the SX4 so Kurt (left) can create some sort of arty shot. Also, the SX4 probably deserves to have snow thrown at it.

In between shoots, Jacobs and Kurt left us stranded on top of the mountain as they scouted possible locations. Left with a BMW X5 and a snow bank, Magrath and I got bored. This is what happens when that happens.

Sadly, Magrath and the X5 didn't go over the cliff. That would've been more interesting, especially since the X5 blog has been a little thin. Would've given us something to talk about, right? But really, what sort of SUV can't get up that? Oh wait, we also have an FX50. We really own the most useless trucks.
