Feb 12, 2009 - Driving in the Rain With Cruise Control--Not Such a Good Idea....

Driving in the rain.....

I wonder how many people know about this -

~ A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago and totaled her car. A resident of Kilgore, Texas she was traveling between Gladewater & Kilgore. It was raining, though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane and literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence!

When she explained to the highway patrolman what had happened he told her something that every driver should know -NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON .

She thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain.

But the highway patrolman told her that if the cruise control is on when your car begins to hydro-plane and your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed making you take off like an airplane.

She told the patrolman that was exactly what had occurred.

The patrolman said this warning should be listed, on the driver's seat sun-visor -

NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY,

along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed- but we don't tell them to use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry.

The only person the accident victim found, who knew this (besides the patrolman), was a man who had had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries.

NOTE: Some vehicles (like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE) will not allow you to set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on.

If you send this to 15 people and only one of them doesn't know about this, then it was all worth it. You might have saved a life.

Jan 29, 2009 - A JOB WELL DONE!!!!

Dear Bobby, Terry, Melissa, and Cecil,

Thank you so much for the most stress-free car-buying experience ever!  You all exhibited the perfect balance of friendly, sincere, "whatever it takes" attitude, without being the least bit pushy.  You allowed me to set the pace.

When I first started my search (11 days ago), I started conversing with 9 different dealers, of 3 different makes/models.  Cecil was one of only 3 dealers that consistently provided whatever feedback I requested, when I requested it.  This is what put your dealership on my "short list".

When I came in for a test drive, Cecil was gone, but he had already told me who would work with me, and I was left in very capable hands.  I was greeted by Bobby, Terry, and Melissa quite eagerly.  As Bobby went to get a test vehicle, Terry took the initiative to have my trade-in appraised while I was test driving, which saved me valuable time.  During and after the test drive, Bobby and Terry answered all my questions, and Terry made me an offer that was hard to refuse.  Nonetheless, I said that I still had another test drive to do, and I had to discuss it all with my wife.  Nobody tried to "bar the door", as so many dealers do, fearing that I would not return.  That to me showed great confidence in your product, as well as trust in my word that I would give your offer fair consideration.

After talking to my wife, my requirements changed somewhat unexpectedly (even to me), but that was no problem to you.  When I made you an offer, we did not even "haggle".  You took it, and we were off.

Through the whole process, everyone remained extremely friendly, helpful, and patient, as I was somewhat of a stickler of doing things cautiously, to make sure things were done right.  The vehicle had to be brought from another dealer, and the ice storm kind of slowed things down a bit, but we all exercised that patience and worked together to "get the job done".

As a result of it all, I am a proud owner of a new car that is better than what I had originally hoped, at a price that was lower than I originally planned.  When I brought it home, the family was thrilled, too.  We couldn't be more pleased!

Suffice it to say that when I receive your Customer Satisfaction Survey, I will have no difficulty whatsoever in marking everything "completely satisfied".

I would like to have copied Mr. Matetich on this e-mail, but I could not find his e-mail address on your site.  Please feel free to pass it on.

 Thank you so very much!

 Sincerely,

Rick Shultz

Jan 22, 2009 - What Detroit is Doing Right? Plenty

By MIKE COX SPECIAL TO THE WASHINGTON POST

America's Big Three automakers got pounded on Capitol Hill last month. Senators from both parties took turns ridiculing General Motors, Ford and Chrysler as out-of-touch fossils, churning out poor-quality products that virtually no one wants to buy.

Wouldn't it be nice if America's automakers actually made cars that customers wanted? New hybrids, for example, and electric vehicles, mid-size cars that rank high in quality and more models that get 30 miles per gallon?

Actually, that's exactly what Detroit is doing. Not in a couple of years, not next year, but now.

I invite every member of the U.S. Senate to come visit the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Here is a sample of what they would see:

  • The brand-new Ford Fusion Hybrid, which is the most fuel-efficient mid-size car in America, averaging 41 miles per gallon.

  •
  • Chevy's new mid-size Malibu, which gets 33 miles per gallon -- better than the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Nissan Altima.

  •
  • Three new electric vehicles from Chrysler, including a gasoline-electric minivan and Jeep model and an all-electric sports car.

Here are a few other facts for the doubters:

  • This model year, Detroit will make more than 137 vehicles that get 30 miles per gallon or more.

  •
  • The Big Three will also sell 25 hybrid models, 38 versions of flex-fuel vehicles and eight models that run on clean diesel.

  •
  • Ford and GM tied for the leadership position in the prestigious 2008 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study -- with 11 models ranked in the top three of their respective segments.

Despite the public scolding recently heaped on the Big Three in Washington, Ford and GM still make the top-selling vehicles in the country, the Ford F-150 truck and the Chevy Silverado.

Senators who think Detroit is still stuck in the dinosaur age may be shocked to learn that the Big Three are the leading purchasers of computer chips nationwide. In fact, GM, Ford and Chrysler are making cutting-edge vehicles featuring the latest in technology, engineering and fuel economy. Detroit's automakers spend $12 billion annually on research and development. No other industry can match that.

More changes are needed, and the Big Three understand that their pace of change must be accelerated. But the last thing our economy needs right now is for 13 million jobs to be threatened. One out of every 10 jobs in America is related to the auto industry. That's why President Bush wisely agreed to release funds as a loan -- not a bailout -- to help the auto industry get through this Wall Street credit crunch.

America's auto industry is building some of the safest, most fuel-efficient, technologically advanced vehicles in the world. That will be on display at this month's auto show in Detroit. As many have said: Facts are stubborn things. Unfortunately, the facts about America's auto manufacturers may have run up against something even more stubborn -- the U.S. Senate.

Michael,

I wanted to take an opportunity to tell you about my experience at your dealership.  I have been in the market for a suburban for some time now and have been in communication via email and phone for the past 6 months with Melissa Ventimiglia.   Melissa is just the kind of contact that I needed as an educated, informed consumer.  She was personable and seemed to work hard for me in order to make this deal work.  She made it very easy for me to make the decision of purchasing from your dealership an 07 LT2 last week for my wife's Valentines Day present.  I can honestly say that the experience was entirely positive, from the minute I talked to her on the phone until the day the deal was done.  Thanks to you and Melissa for a job well done.

Dear Mr. Mike Matetich and Service Manager,

I am a customer of Jupiter Chrevrolet. The only person that I have dealings with for service is, Mr. Peter Leff.

At all times this man has the best attitude, a smile and a very kind voice. He always has been about what can I do to help!
Calling to let me know about my car, when it will be ready and lettimg me know about what is going on.

Not once has Mr. Peter Leff been discourteous, or act like he had no time to help me. I am one person that will always go to Mr Leff for help.

Sometimes being a Women and trying to get answers about a car, it can get a little difficult.

Sometimes we women feel like we are being talked down to about cars. I just wanted you to know what a good employee you have for your company.

Thank You

Ms. Ely Schultz

Subject: Cesar Lamadrid and my truck's service

Steve,

Hi, my name is John D. Kanios, I recently had my truck in at your service facility for several things:

I own a  2002 Chevrolet S10 Crew Cab 4x4 and I take excellent care of my truck. About a week ago, my family and I were coming home late at night and the service engine soon light came on, and I thought, "Oh no, what could that mean?" This is my first Chevrolet after many years of owning and driving many other makes of trucks.

Because of my bad experience at a different Chevrolet Dealership's service department, I decided to take my truck to your place and see how things go. So I arrived early on Monday morning at the shop to turn my truck in for service. I also would like to state that I have a third party extended warranty on my truck, which was purchased via my financial institution when I purchased the truck and it was financed there.

Anyway, I met Cesar Lamadrid there and he wrote up my ticket, due to an earlier visit, they had kept my warranty information in the computer system for me, (Thank you)!

It wound up being a very frustrating and angering week (I finally got my truck back on Saturday the 14th). Cesar and myself had to literally argue our way through the problems with my truck to the warranty company, and I think my blood pressure capped out on Thursday night when I still had no truck and Cesar was just about as exhausted as I was with the entire situation. The reason I was so stressed is that I needed my truck back to travel to San Antonio for a week long convention, and Cesar worked diligently to ensure my vehicle was ready for me.

I just wanted to commend Cesar for sticking in there and having to deal with my frustration and dealing with my warranty company. In the end they covered all of the needed repairs to my truck (Thank God) and all is well, but Cesar was a true professional through it all and handled the situation well.

It is very refreshing in this day and age to have fine customer service, far to many times (like the warranty company), many people do not realize they are dealing with people, not machines. Cesar is one fine professional and represents your Service Department with true poise, composure and professionalism, Thanks Cesar!

My hat is off to Cesar and Jupiter Chevrolet's service department for not just telling me that they could not help me, but for stepping up to the plate and hitting grand slam! Not only is Cesar a true professional, your place could have just said thanks but no thanks.

Thank you again for the assistance of finally getting my vehicle running correctly and having the fortitude to make it happen, thanks Cesar!

I would like to add one more thing:

  • For the problem they corrected, my truck is running  better (engine is running cooler) than it ever has since I have owned it. This  leads to a concern that my truck had a problem from the time I purchased it  and it was never corrected until I brought it to your shop and they discovered  the cause of the problem. Other Chevrolet Dealership's service department  would simply replace the part and go on not finding the cause. The repair  (although extensive) has brought new life to my truck. However, if my truck's  engine was running much hotter (not overheating), but using coolant like  drinking water, and nobody ever discovered that cause, I have to question all  others who have ever serviced my truck.

Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Mr. John D. Kanios

Chritopher A. Jones who purchased a Trailblazer says:  The deal worked out great. Not the same experience I have had with other dealerships. When I am ready to buy again T will likely start at Jupiter Chverolet!( Frank Abdelwahab)

James Martin who did not purchase a vehicle writes:

Hello Melissa,

I want to thank you for your time and effort on finding me the truck I needed. As I had stated, I was in desperate need for a truck ASAP. In my desperate search for the 1 ton, single rear whell truck I needed, an option opened up for a available vehicle. In my current situation, I had to chose this oppurtunity, as not having a vehicle was detrimental to my business and I hope you understand and regret not having the chance to do business and meet you. Could you please send me some of your business cards, as I would like to pass along the great effort that you put into trying to locate me the vehicle I needed. Please mail the cards to my address. Your professionalism and customer care that was displayed to me, shows your kindness, support, knowledge of the current market place and dedication to the dealership whom you are employed with....Congratulations.

TRULY SATISFIED CUSTOMER,

James Martin

P.S. Could you please send me a e-mail address of your superior and employer, as I would like to forward this mail to them...again Thank You and Congratulations

Dear Sir or Madame

I wanted to take a moment to share my heartfelt thanks for the extremely pleasant procedures encountered in purchasing another company work truck this Saturday.

In More than forty ears of buying new vehicles, I can truly say that I have never had a more pleasant experience from start to finish.

I made a phone call and spoke to one of the Sales Manangers (Ron Ofner) . I told him the pricing I had from another dealership and he indicated that he would match or beat it. I did not think he could do so, but came anyway.

I am located only 15 minutes from the dealership and by the time I arrived, he had a salesman (Keith Hill) on the lot finding a comparable truck. Within a few minutes, it was a done deal. I ended up getting a truck with just a bit more equiptment for less than $300.00 above what I was going to pay at a competitor with less equiptment.

I do appreciate the promptness, thoroughness and professionalism I experienced from your dealership. You are to be commended for assembling a great team and providing excellent training.

I will be returning in the not-so-distant future for my next company vehicle.

Thank You,

J.B. Wascom

Oct 9, 2008 - Malcolm With His Pants Down.....Interesting

Our esteemed Service Manager, Malcom Simons is in the photo below with his pants down to his ankles.  Why would he be photographed like this knowing that we would put him on the blog?

Good question.  I don't think he thought that far ahead.

Malcolm raced all season at Redline Raceway this summer, and made it to the bracket finals at Pine Valley Raceway, where this illustrious photo was captured.  He made it through the eliminations at Pine Valley to the semifinals.

Malcolm not only raced the Jupiter Chevy Camaro, but he had a foot race as well.  At Pine Valley, along with Drag Racing, they also paticipated in "Olympic Activities."  One of which is a foot race with your pants down to your ankles.

Malcolm may be a fantastic drag racer, but he couldn't hold a candle to the lady to his left.  She won the race.  Malcolm, on top of it all, you have a photo on the Internet in your nice boxer briefs, but you also got beat by a girl.

WAY TO GO!!-we still love you though.  Keep up the good work!
