Tales from the far side of car sales and other transportation stories.

May 13, 2008 - An update...

I started the oral chemo three weeks ago. I goofed and only took half my prescription the first two weeks. No meds the third week and started again this morning with the correct does. 2000mg in the morning and 2000mg at night. That's a lot of mg's! So far so good. Will be due for a scan in June. Keep our fingers crossed.

On the car biz side, things have been ok for us. Not too slow but we are not being overrun by customers. Our store came up with a plan to move the gas guzzlers. Mainly Sequoia Limiteds and Tundra Limited CrewMax. Since Toyota is offering 2k rebate plus 2k loyalty rebate, we are matching it with a 4k gas card. Plus and additional $600.00 of the MSRP and $400.00 for college grads! So in effect the customers will be getting $5000.00 off MSRP plus the 4k gas card.

On the Tundra is very similar, 3k rebate plus 2k loyalty rebate for a grand total of $5000.00 off MSRP and also the $600.00 discount plus the $400.00 college grad rebate AND a 3k gas card.
Tundra

For customers that don't care about the price of gas this is an unbelievable deal! I hope it drives traffic to the showroom this weekend.

Apr 1, 2008 - Got my results today!

I spoke with my oncologist this morning. The scans are clear of cancer so that means I'm in remission. However, we are taking this slowly as we discussed a maintenance program consisting of an oral chemo therapy pill (XELODA) which was given to me the first time after my surgery. It's some nasty stuff too. It killed the nerve endings on my hands and feet among other things. So now I'm in a dilemma. Do I start this maintenance program or do I just go on and let nature take it's course? Hmm.

Mar 20, 2008 - Today is my last day of chemo..

I'm relieved but at the same time apprehensive. I'll have a scan next week and hopefully my cancer is in remission. I'm just taking it one day at a time and putting it in the hands of my higher power. I'll keep you posted.

Mar 5, 2008 - Almost done with chemo...

I started my 11th cycle of chemo today. Two more weeks and I'll have my last one. A PET Scan on March 26th and then a follow up with my doctor on the first week of April. I've done this twice before so I have the t-shirts and coffee mugs. This is the time when I get very anxious and depressed. I discussed this with my doc and she told me it's normal with persons going through what I've been through. She suggested some counseling so I have to search for another therapist since the last one I had didn't do anything for me. The plan after this is a "maintenance program" which is double speak for more chemo but on a one month on one month off basis. Since there are no hard studies for people with my recurrence episodes they really don't know what to do. I guess you could say I'm a special case. Life goes on, and I just take it one day at a time.

Feb 13, 2008 - nj2pa2nc

You may have seen the above letters and numbers on several posts. This past Saturday it was my distinct pleasure to meet one of our forum members; nj2pa2nc. Kathy and Howard stopped by the dealership to meet me and we had a good long chat about life and cars, and of course the Edmund's forums. Kathy really likes me putting the animated smileys and pictures of just about anything. I showed her how to do it and I hope to see some pictures posted by her. Speaking of pictures, she took one of me next to the Queen Mother, a 2006 Red Acura TSX. Very nice car, and a stick shift too! I was going to post the picture here but seems like the uploader is not working. It's on my carspace page under "My new haircut" be advised that I look nothing like the picture on my carspace. My mustache is all but gone and so are my eyebrows and eyelashes.. I'm also wearing a hat as my hair fell off and I don't look to good bald. :) Thanks to the chemo, but hey I'm still alive.!

I got the picture to work!

Feb 3, 2008 - The 09 Corolla and Matrix are here..

2009 Toyota Matrix

Just as I had posted on carspace the 09 Corolla is basically a re-hash of the car that's been selling overseas for the last two model years. Not that is a bad car per se, but it does leave something to be desired in the areas of new technology. Sure it has a 1.8L dual VVT-i engine mated to a 4speed auto or 5spd manual depending on trim level.
The "upscale" XLE is nothing more than an LE with wood accents which was the same car in 2008,
The one we are all looking forward to is the XRS.  It comes with the company's 2.4L engine that's found on the Scion tC, Camry, xB, Rav4 and another model which I don't recall right now. Why Toyota doesn't call this car GT-S is beyond me. Many Corolla owners remember that car fondly and wish we had something like that back.
It will be pricey, base models start at around 16k with XRS models fully optioned can reach 24k. Can you say Camry territory?

P.S. the pic above is the 2009 Matrix, basically a Corolla wagon to compete with the Mazda 3.

Jan 15, 2008 - Toyota unveils new model at Detroit Auto Show

Looks like Toyota was ready to fill a void in the lineup. Chrysler discontinues the Pacifica and Toyota steps right in with the new Venza. A crossover sedan/wagon smaller than the Highlander but bigger than the RAV4 built on the Camry/Avalon platform, it will be loaded with standard features like dual climate control, six cd in dash changer, pw,pl,pm, cruise control, power seats. Options look like nav, a panoramic moonroof a la tC. This one will be available with a new 2.7L inline four and a 3.5L V6. Should be hitting dealers in late fall 2008. 2009 Toyota Venza

Dec 17, 2007 - It's here!!

The 2008 Toyota Sequoia is finally here and it's a beauty! Why would someone look at a Landcruiser over this new Sequoia is beyond me. Other than the Lc heritage the new 08 Sequoia is a lot of SUV for the money.

We received two Platinum edition and one SR5. The Platinum is the one to get in my opinion. It has everything you would want and more! DVD Navigation with voice commands. DVD rear entertaintment system. Middle row captain's chairs with heat, center console with storage for mid and third row seat passengers, power third row folding seat and more.

I was impressed by the EPA MPG ratings: 13 city 18 hwy with the 5.7L V8 with the six speed automatic transmission with sport shift. I had a chance to get it out on the road and it's a beast! Head snapping acceleration, outstanding handling and first of all top notch fit and finish that you would expect from Toyota. We have a winner in our hands!

Dec 4, 2007 - 2008 Toyota Sequoia

The long awaited 2008 Toyota Sequoia is arriving this week at Toyota dealers across the USA. I'm very excited over this new edition of our big SUV as it has just about all the amenities you want in a Landcruiser for a Sequoia price. IMHO this vehicle will do really well without the need of huge rebates or incentives. We get our first one between 12/05-12/10 Scheduled is a Platinum edition with all the goodies. We should have pricing available sometime this week. I hope it's not priced out of this world as the 08 Landcruiser. Since the Sequoia will be built in the US the price won't be monumental compared to its Japanese built counterparts.

Dec 4, 2007 - Ford selling Jaguar and Land Rover

Looking at the automotive news today I read that Ford will be making the announcement later this month (December) I wonder how this sale will affect dealers here in the US. We shall see. Land Rover makes some nice SUV's in particular the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
