Forget fantasy football. If you're into cars then the place to be is The Car Stock Exchange. It's an online game by the Edmunds' Inside Line crew where you can buy and sell stock in upcoming vehicles, which is valued based on predicting the sales of particular models in the U.S. The money used in CSX exists only in the virtual world and new members receive $1,000,000 in funny money for joining. Honda Pilot Driver's Seat Catches Fire
Posted by carspace
Talk about being in the hot seat! A member reports having his 2004 Honda Pilot car seat go up in flames after warming the car for a few minutes on a cold Chicago morning. The car was filled with smoke and a flame was visible. The driver managed to extinguish the fire and now has a two inch hole in the driver's seat along with a horrible smell. At least two other members report similar incidents and a number report that while their seats haven't burned their heated seats become unbearably hot... Read More
Are oil changes every 3,000 miles really needed?
Posted by carspace
A new state campaign in California is urging motorists to ignore the old instructions of changing your oil every 3,000 miles. The California Integrated Waste Management Board, assigned to reduce waste and keep used oil out of landfills, water bodies and groundwater, launched the campaign after research found that 73 percent of Californians change their oil more frequently than recommended by the manufacturers of their vehicles - most of them at 3,000 miles. The campaign, using www.3000milemyth.org as a primary listening post states that most vehicles can go 5,000, 7,000 or even 10,000 miles without an oil change depending on driving habits and conditions. If you live in California, expect radio ads to bombard you on the topic. What's at stake?.. Read More
Super Bowl Recap of the Game, er, Car Commercials
Posted by carspace
Well, surprise, surprise! The game was not a snoozer at all. CarSpace fans who were instant messaging during the game were surprised that the Giants held the Pats to 4 points for most of it and in the final minutes took what Patriot fans had declared theirs going into the game. But what about the commercials?!?!?! In canvasing the community and neighborhood parties, the Planter's Cashew commercial was indeed among the funniest... Read More

I just got my first close-up look a the 2009 Ford Flex. One of Ford's able-bodied reprsentatives brought it by the office, showed us all the major features and then let us crawl in, through and around it... more
I spent most of yesterday at Willow Springs Raceway as part of our second Edmunds Consumer Comparison Test: Economy Cars. If you saw my earlier post you already know that we wanted to pit the leading (by both sales and editorial opinion) economy sedans against each other, but beyond picking the entrants and organizing the test session we would offer no guidance on which car we like the best... more

Pedestrians walk and bike in ItalyThe last few days I have been in Modena, Italy on a business trip. Like most European cities, I see people of all ages walking and biking instead of driving around town to do their errands.  I realize that not all of you reading this blog live in a city and drive to do your errands but I think we can all take another look at WALKING... more
My 2-year-old daughter and I have spent a good deal of time with the Recaro Como convertible car seat  now, and I’m pleased to report that we both are very happy with its performance in most areas. We’ve tested it in a large percentage of our long-term test vehicles, including the 2008 Honda Accord, 2007 Saturn Aura, 2008 Buick Enclave, 2008 Cadillac CTS, 2008 Hyundai Veracruz, 2007 Honda Fit, 2008 Pontiac G8, and 2005 Volkswagen Jetta... more

Nissan recently introduced an "intelligent" cruise control system that goes beyond the radar based intelligent cruise control devices that are available from a handful of manufacturers.
