Problem: your car stereo has "code" on the screen and doesnt work. This is usually because the battery has been disconected, removed or replaced.
Solution: punch in the 5 digit code.
If you have lost the card that came with the car that had the serial number and code for your stereo, open the glove compartement and look on the outer left surface of same. There is a sticker with 2 series of numbers. The 5 digit series is your stereo code.

For cars with the navigation system: the 1-6 trick might not work. I called customer services but they also refused to give me the code without a serial number. And to grab that they wanted to charge me $100 to dismantle my car and look it in the back of the panel. There is an easy trick to grab that serial I'm sure they do not want to tell you. Wait for the password screen to load up, press and hold the MAP MENU CANCEL buttons for about 5 seconds, or until the diagnostics screen pops up. Go to UNIT CHECK, and NAVI ECU. Write down your serial number, go to https://radio-navicode.honda.com/ and type your VIN, contact number, and serial number there. Fix'd!

I called the local dealership and received the common response; $100.00 fee. I googled Planet Honda in Denver, called the number and they gave me the code immediately if I supplied the serial number. I live in Maryland and no dealers in this state would be as graceful as one mentioned above. An alternative way to retreive the serial number is to take the stereo out of the center dashboard panel. The sticker on the top side of it will clearly state the serial number. Provide the serial number and in return receive the code! Thanks A LOT KOBEZIG!

I recently ran into this problem when I removed the battery from my 2001 Honda Civic. When I visited the dealership in Burlington ON that the car originated, I was told that they no longer had the information in their database as it is expunged after a certain amount of time and that I would have to pay $100 to have the radio removed to get at the serial number, etc. She smugly remarked, "You can't expect us to hold onto that kind of information forever." I said, "Why not? It is only 5 characters of info. Second, my car is only 8 years old. The cost of data storage is not thaaat expensive! What a bunch of nonsense!" She then tried to redirect the responsibility to the used car dealer that actually sold me the car. I told her that I had already went there and that he (understandably) said that his only responsibility was providing me with the keys and the manuals, not any cards containing special codes as he deals with too many makes and models of vehicle to be mindful of stuff like that. Plus, he is already the fourth party to have owned the vehicle and that things like that get lost along the way. She then got defensive and I started to get frustrated and almost started yelling at her (but didn't). I mean, what is the point of the anti-theft feature if the owner ends up not having access to his radio? Finally I asked to speak to her manager who was able to help me by using the serial number lookup procedure indicated above. What a hassle to go through!

If you don't have a sticker on your glove box door (like me) then you can do the following. 1. Get the stereo serial number by using the 1-6 trick. Simultaneously press the 1 & 6 preset buttons on your stereo and turn the power on and off. The there will be a series of numbers add the first set with the second set of numbers and you have the serial number. 2. Call the dealership you bought your car at and give them the serial number. They will then give you the security code. The dealership I called did it for free (Planet Honda in Denver) Hope this helps.... Kobezig
