Checking your vehicle's oil is easy to do, doesn't take long, and can add years to the life of your vehicle.  Here's how it's done.

Step 1: Park your vehicle and turn off the engine.

Step 2: Let the car sit for five minutes to allow the fluids to settle.

Step 3: Open the hood.

Step 4: Locate the dipstick.

It often has a brightly colored yellow or red handle.  If you cannot find it, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

Step 5: Remove the dipstick.

Step 6: Wipe it clean with a rag.

Step 7: Reinsert the dip stick.

Step 8: Remove it a second time and check the level.
The level should be between the two hash marks near the bottom of the stick.

Step 9: If you're low, add oil.

If your vehicle's oil level is is below the lower mark, add a quart of oil.
