With a FM modulator all you need to do to listen to your MP3's through your car stereo speakers is to follow these steps;

1.Purchase any brand of FM modulator designed for iPod. iTrip is offered through Apple but there are many other aftermarket options available as well. Price ranges between $30-$100 depending on if you get one with a built in powersource cable and/or docking system.

2. Connect the FM Modulator to your iPod. Turn it on.

3. Turn on your radio, choose a frequency with little or no static.

4. Tune your modulator to the same frequency and your music will automatically play through your stereo speakers.

While this is a quick, convenient solution you may notice a diminished sound quality as the modulator is subseptible to outside interference. However for those who want something easy and wireless this is an affordable and straight forward resolution.

The only problem is in urban areas like LA. You cannot use the transmitter at all because all frequencies are already used up. Going out in the countryside it would work handsomely.

A couple notes on this: First, you CAN be too cheap in purchasing an FM Transmitter. If you go for a simple $12.95 deal from your local electronics store, you likely WOULD get a better sound quality from a higher-grade transmitter. Also, try to use a transmitter that you can plug into a cigarette lighter for power than relying on a battery. A plug-in transmitter will give you much better sound quality. Finally, if nothing else, and your transmitter just doesn't seem to give you any decent sound quality, try having a passenger hold the transmitter in their fist. Not sure exactly how this works, but it seems that they can serve as an extra antenna, and greatly improve your sound quality. Sounds crazy, but trust me, it's worked for me on 3 or 4 different transmitters.
