Step 1: Check your owner's manual see how the rotation should be done on your car or truck.
Rotate your vehicle's tires at regular mileage intervals. You need to check your vehicle's owner's manual to see how this should be done on the model that you own, but it is often as simple as moving the tire from the front passenger side of your vehicle to the rear passenger side.
Step 2: Loosen the lug nuts on each wheel.
Once you know where your tires have to go, moving them isn't difficult. Start by loosening the lug nuts on each wheel.
Step 3: Jack your vehicle up and place it on jack stands.
Never work on an elevated vehicle that is not supported by jack stands.
Step 4: Remove the lug nuts.
Once your car or truck is securely elevated, remove the lug nuts from the wheel on one side of the vehicle.
Step 5: Slide the two wheels on the side of the vehicle that you are working on off.
Be certain to label where the wheels were located before you remove them. It would be pretty frustrating to forget which tire was which.
Step 6: Swap the location of the wheels.
Step 7: Replace the lug nuts.
Step 8: Repeat the process for the wheels on the other side of your vehicle.
Step 9: Make sure that the lug nuts on all four wheels are snug.
Step 10: Carefully lower your vehicle to the ground.
Step 11: Fully tighten the lug nuts.
Once the vehicle is on the ground, fully tighten the lug nuts to their specifications. A torque wrench works well for this. Your vehicle's owner's manual should tell you exactly how tight the lug nuts need to be.
