- The Jeep you see in the photos I painted myself. It was the first car I ever painted and first time I ever used a paint sprayer, etc. Ran into some issues but everyone says it's beautiful so...
I did all the work on it. Having to cut out the fenders to install fender flares, and extensive custom fab work to finish them as Bushwacker doesn't tell you all that you really should do when installing them or give you a template to make life much easier and the junk bolts they give you that strip with no effort. You need to buy some quality stainless button head bolts and nylock nuts or nut inserts to do it right with Locktite... Found all this and more WHILE installing them... It's much more work than needed in some areas and nothing in their instructions about rust proofing or the rubber stickyback roofing material I had to use to seal up the wheel wells, etc. Also, if you bought the Bushwacker Fender flares for your Cherokee you will see they made a nice little ledge inside them for mud to compact up in and cause alot of hassles trying to clean it out leading to MUCH rust in the future. I cut them all off except the flares on the back doors to protect from mud getting up into them so when you open the door it gets all over you. Don't need that!
Needless to say, just about everything involving installing them and the product itself had to be modified or custom fabbed. Much more than I thought I was in for when I started it. I think Bushwacker needs to rethink the flares a little and put quality parts and better instructions, more detailed, and give templates to make life easier... Why measure and all that when all you would have to do is tape a template to the fender and trace it? Go figure. I had to trim more off anyway when it was all said and done because of cutting the inside of the fender flares out, which adds more room for your tires anyway which is the point of it all. Make SURE you go the extra mile rust proofing everything you can. Obviously if you don't..
